Meet Midge the terrier. Our playful little pup was first introduced as our 2025 Christmas surprise, and isn’t she sweet! Midge is one of those big personalities that come in small, mischievous packages. She is a little shorter than Luna, but the same size as Ottoline. She’s quick with a grin, quicker with a plan, and never far from the heart of the fun. Tail always wagging, Midge’s dream is to open a little toyshop of her own one day, a place full of wonder and warmth, where every shelf holds magic and someone’s perfect gift.

Midge is made with seam allowances, so if you want, you can make her in other fabrics, including bouclé, which we have tested. It’s all very possible, but a little trickier. If you haven’t made Midge before, you can choose between a felt or a bouclé make-me kit. Please note that the instructions refer to stitching in felt only, and you will need to be confident switching the instructions from felt to bouclé on your own. We have included some tips below in the long description.

Buy a Make Me Kit if you need all the ingredients, pattern and instructions – please choose if you would like stuffing. Please note we do not post stuffing overseas.
Buy a Remake Kit if you need the ingredients to make a second, third or fourth Midge.
Buy the Pattern if you only need the pattern and instructions, and you are sewing from your stash (choose between a PDF download of the pattern or a posted paper one).

Each kit is hand-assembled on the edge of the English Lake District.

Description

Our Make Me Midge kits include easy-to-follow instructions, accompanied by beautiful photography and clear diagrams that demonstrate the sewing steps. All our Make Me Kits now include a little tag to help you share in Midge’s Story and a PDF copy of the pattern, just in case your paper copy gets lost. We are sure that if you read the instructions carefully, you will be successful in your sewing, but if you have any questions (or just want to show off your work), join Luna Lapin’s Little World, our helpful Facebook community.

Midge is designed to be mostly machine-sewn, though a patient stitcher could complete her by hand. Unlike most of Luna’s companions, she is made with seam allowance. She is suitable for an intermediate stitcher who has made Luna before. We recommend that you be at least 13 or 14 years old. Midge is one of Luna’s shorter friends – around the same height as Ziggy and Ottoline.

Here are a few tips from Sarah on making Midge in Bouclé

* Bouclé has a natural stretch — a light fusible interfacing on the head pieces helps everything keep its shape when stuffing.

* It can be bulky, so for neat ears we suggest cutting the under ear in felt or cotton.

* A walking foot makes bouclé much easier, but isn’t necessary.

* Our polyester bouclé is soft, squishy, and happy with a cool, gentle wash — just keep it out of the tumble dryer.

Ingredients

In the Felt kit or you will need

26.5cm (10.5in) x 82.5cm (33in) pure white 100% woolfelt,
11cm (4.5in) x 45cm (18in) cinnamon felt,
10cm (4in) x 30cm (12in) black felt,
bobbin of tonal thread, embroidery thread (split into individual strands to use),
2 x 12mm transparent brown safety eyes,
2 x 1.5cm (5/8in) buttons for arm joints,
2 x 2.3cm (15/16in) buttons for legs,
safety nose,
sewing needle,
doll needle.

You will also need black thread, a sewing machine, an iron, scissors, a water-soluble marking pen, 110-120gms stuffing and a knitting needle/chopstick for turning through/stuffing.

I bought the Christmas Surprise Midge, have made her up and love her to bits. So much so that now I’m going to make the boucle version. I found the pattern worked beautifully, as do all Sarah’s patterns and the materials, as always, top quality.
