Midges Playset is made up of a little blouse with a big, decorative collar and Midge’s favourite dungarees are fun and practical – made in an exaggerated wide wale cord, the overalls pull in at the back with elastic and have a bib and button straps. The waist is high, the legs wide with two front pleats and a deep turn-up. The blouse is sewn in soft double gauze. Midge loves this cloud-like cotton. The slight bell sleeve brings some gentle drama. The blouse features hand-finishing on the playful pompom trim. You could make the blouse in cotton poplins or Liberty Lawn, add embroidery to the collar corners, lengthen into a dress or even have it with the button opening at the front.

Our Make Me kits include easy-to-follow instructions, beautiful photography, and clear diagrams that illustrate the sewing steps. We are sure that if you read the instructions carefully, you will be successful in your sewing, but if you have any questions (or just want to show off your work), join Luna Lapin’s Little World, our helpful Facebook community.

Midge’s Playset is suitable for a confident beginner, though we wouldn’t suggest it as a first project. We recommend that you have experience making clothing (person or Luna-sized) before. This project is designed for machine sewing, but a very patient person could complete it by hand. All the clothes in the Luna Lapin collection (unless stated otherwise) will fit Luna and all her friends. The pattern is made for Midge, who is a little shorter than Luna (more mole/otter size), so if you want to make it for Luna, we have included enough fabric, and you should add 4cm at the lengthen/shorten line on the pattern before cutting out.

Errata
In the original copies of the Midges Play set, there is an error in the blouse Step 3, it should read
Take care with the raglan seams, as they are on the bias and you don’t want them to stretch or distort.
With right sides together, match one side of the front to one sleeve seam. Sew together with a ½ cm seam . Repeat with the other side. Finish the seam allowance with an overlocker or zigzag stitch. Press seams towards the sleeve.

This affects all copies sent as the Christmas surprise, and has since been corrected.

Ingredients

Included or you will need:
Blouse
20cm (8in) x 140cm (54in) 100% Cotton Double Gauze (you have more than necessary in kit), 70cm pompom trim (colours may vary – as we go to print we just don’t know!), 1 x 14L shell button.
Dungarees
40cm (16in) x 70cm (29in) 100% Cotton jumbo wale cord, 2 x 14L corozo buttons (colours may vary), 2 snap fasteners, 1 bobbin tonal thread, 12cm of 1cm wide elastic (make elastic longer for fatter animals).

You will also need tonal thread, a sewing machine, iron, scissors, pins and a fine handsewing needle, water-soluble marking pen.
