We love needle felting for many reasons but the fact that you can turn a bundle of wool roving into a 3D model in a matter of hours is immensely satisfying. The techniques in this tutorial are perfect for beginners and really easy to master so it makes a lovely creative gift idea for anyone who loves animals.

Inside your kit, you will find some soft English ‘top’ and Herdwick wool roving, some super fine merino fibres, a specialist felting needle and little pin eyes. Our clear photographic instructions will guide you through the project, plus we have included a needle-felting basics guide full of our top tips.

You will need: A soft surface to work on. A felting mat is brilliant but a large bath sponge or a soft cushion will do if you are just beginning.
