What is a Twill?
Twill refers to how the threads are woven, not what they’re made from. If you look closely, you’ll spot the tell-tale diagonal rib running across the surface—that’s the twill weave at work. It’s created by passing the weft thread over one or more warp threads, then under two or more others, shifting each row to create that characteristic slant.
What makes twill so special? It’s strong, pliable, and forgiving. It resists creases better than plain weaves and often has a lovely drape with a subtle texture. Twill can be made from cotton, wool, viscose, linen, or blends—so you might find it in everything from hearty workwear to softly tailored garments.
